McGowan Capital Group “graduates” from SDTBC

Gene McGowan knows exactly why his company, McGowan Capital Group, was able to grow at the South Dakota Technology Business Center.“The services provided by the Technology Business Center permitted us to work on our business without being landlords,” he said. “We didn’t have to worry about telephones, copy machines and the technology system. We just grew our business.”

And McGowan’s business is helping South Dakota companies grow. As a private equity, venture capital firm, the McGowan Capital Group works with in-state and regional businesses to give them the opportunity to take their service or product to the next level—strengthening the economy as it strengthens communities and families.

“We’ve raised about $20 million in capital,” McGowan said, “which we’ve invested in regional companies that range from technology to food processing to shipping commodities. It’s our goal to invest in early-stage businesses—and we love working with entrepreneurs.”

In addition to vital funding, the McGowan Capital Group provides leadership, management support and technical assistance that increases the viability of small, growing companies.

“Just as the Technology Business Center helped us grow our business,” McGowan said, “we want to help others grow their businesses.”

The McGowan Capital Group has “graduated” from SDTBC, moving into 3,000 square feet at the corner of 10^th and Phillips in downtown Sioux Falls. The firm occupied just 1,300 square feet at the Technology Business Center, a space McGowan acknowledges was “cramped” when the staff grew to six.
